Erotic Language Barrier

Amongst the many barriers of entry to adjust with the Thai culture I must admit the language barrier is the most difficult, crazy, and unique barrier. Before you continue reading I must alarm you that this post is rated "R" and has nothing to do with pirates.
During one of the nights the other interns and I went out I had to use the restroom. As I made my way towards the restroom (Hong Nahm in Thai) there was a group of Thai girls outside the bathrooms gossiping. In order to get to the mens restroom I had to pass through them. Since I figured they only spoke Thai I said "Sorry I need to use the restroom." In Thai, which is in my beginner skills "Ka toad te nye hong nahm."
After I said it the girls faces looked shocked and one laughed a little bit. As I stood there confused I simply said it again"Ka toad te nye hong nahm." Once again, I received the same response. Thankfully one of the girls who spoke English looked at me and said...

Girl: Do you know what you are saying?
Me: Yes! I'm saying "Sorry I need to use the restroom."
Girl: Haha, No! You are saying "I want to masturbate in the girls bathroom!"

When she told me what I had said she used excessive hand gestures. Everyone laughed as my face blushed and I apologized. The whole time I had been telling these girls that I wanted to masturbate in their bathroom, no wonder they wouldn't let me through!
The reason I said the wrong thing is because "Sorry" is a different tone than "masturbate" and I mixed them up. Thankfully, they were nice people and laughed it off because I am a "fallang" (white person.)
Thanks for reading!

Liquid Perks of Thailand

While being in Thailand I have aimed to indulge myself in many aspects of the culture. Yet, I must not ignore the most exciting category offered, Alcohol.......enjoy this collage of different beverages I have found here. Not all of them are Thai but if they are listed, I have never seen or drank them. Enjoy! P.S. this country is not much of a craft beer place so there are not many good beers.
On the left is Chang. It is he Thai heavy beer. Coming in at 6.4% it taste  like a watered down Bud-weiser. They also always sell beers in bottles 640 ml. It is the type of beer you drink to get hammered.

Here is LEO it taste slightly better than Chang. I would compare it to bud light but all of these beers taste alike and definitely aren’t sold for taste.

Here we have tiger and cheers. Tiger is a Singapore beer coming in at 5% alc. Im not sure how it is still on the market. In short, buy something else. Next is cheers, its like budlight or something. None of these beers are that good, they are simply popular beers you drink to get drunk.

Here is Archa. It is made by the same company that makes the rest of the Thai beers. It taste nasty and is unenjoyable. It is the equivalent of Milwaukee or Busch.

Now that we have the nasty beers out of the way, here are some that I enjoyed.
This is a cider from Three Oaks Cider Co. First off, I love ciders. They are the beer I enjoy the most and could drink them all night. However, Three Oaks Cider makes their cider more like champagne (some ciders are known for this effect) Personally, I don't like the champagne taste too much so this cider gets about a 5 on my scale. I then tried their "Dry" cider. I hated it, I dont like dry cider. I liked the original but was still on the edge due to the champagne effect.

This is Cing rice beer. It is made from rice and is
not out on the market yet. I was able to get it because they had a booth at the food fair I was at to launch their product. I was very glad to get it before it was in store. The beer was very thick and had a slightly denser consistency than milk. It was very very sweet and came in at 5% alc. I could probably drink three per night and would surely buy more once they are out.

This is Crumpton Oaks Pear Cider. It was...ehhh...alright. But I also have never been a pear cider fan. I am more of an apple cider fan. I would compare this pear cider to Fox Barrels Pear Cider, however it had more of a champagne effect compared to Fox Barrels. I wouldn't buy this beer again.

This is Hong Thong. Since I am 12 Years old I laughed because it's funny, you know because it says thong. It is. This has ended up being our go to whiskey. For a fifth of it the price comes in at 210 Baht, which is $6.85. Which is cheaper than any bottle in the US. So, that's what we drink....all the time. However, I do not recommend shots of it.

This is another product that I purchased at THAIFEX and is not yet out
on the market. It is a Sake that is completely organic. My father would love this stuff. When the shot first enters your mouth is taste like water it then has a small slight punch. However, it taste absolutely terrible when warm as my drinking buddy and I found out in the taxi ride to the Marriott. They also have an organic vodka. Worth the google search if you're into organics.

For the Beetches
This is the stuff that the one chick here drinks all the time. It's nasty when mixed with beer as we found out playing a drinking game.
I found it odd that they make these here. Basically pre mixed drinks in bottles. They don't taste very good.
