Erotic Language Barrier

Amongst the many barriers of entry to adjust with the Thai culture I must admit the language barrier is the most difficult, crazy, and unique barrier. Before you continue reading I must alarm you that this post is rated "R" and has nothing to do with pirates.
During one of the nights the other interns and I went out I had to use the restroom. As I made my way towards the restroom (Hong Nahm in Thai) there was a group of Thai girls outside the bathrooms gossiping. In order to get to the mens restroom I had to pass through them. Since I figured they only spoke Thai I said "Sorry I need to use the restroom." In Thai, which is in my beginner skills "Ka toad te nye hong nahm."
After I said it the girls faces looked shocked and one laughed a little bit. As I stood there confused I simply said it again"Ka toad te nye hong nahm." Once again, I received the same response. Thankfully one of the girls who spoke English looked at me and said...

Girl: Do you know what you are saying?
Me: Yes! I'm saying "Sorry I need to use the restroom."
Girl: Haha, No! You are saying "I want to masturbate in the girls bathroom!"

When she told me what I had said she used excessive hand gestures. Everyone laughed as my face blushed and I apologized. The whole time I had been telling these girls that I wanted to masturbate in their bathroom, no wonder they wouldn't let me through!
The reason I said the wrong thing is because "Sorry" is a different tone than "masturbate" and I mixed them up. Thankfully, they were nice people and laughed it off because I am a "fallang" (white person.)
Thanks for reading!
