Last night, one of my boss' took me to see Thailand's largest and most famous band, his translation to me of their wealth was "Zach! They have over 1000,000,000 baht!" which is about 33 million USD. They are called either Carabao or Calabow, the internet says it's both so whatever. They play basically classic rock and personally I think they kick ass. They all dress like bikers, have sick mustaches, and are all in their 60's, you're never too old to rock n' roll.
Some of my boss' friends were at our table. The one on the far left is a banker and the one in the middle is a high ranking member in the Thai army, the person who sat across us was the head of a Thai district along with another high ranking officer. Apparently my boss is a hot shot. They hardly spoke any english so the way we communicated was through booze. When we would try to talk to eachother it would fail and apparently that meant that they should pour more scotch into my drink. There were four of them so there wasn't a single time that one of them was not putting more booze in my glass. Needless to say, they got me drunk.
The guy in the middle was hilarious. When he danced he would cross his arms and sway back and forth. His second dance move was to flatten his hands and bounce them back and forth from side to side. I had my sunglasses with me and he kept taking them and putting them on so I would take his and put them on, but upside down and they thought it was hilarious.
One thing I found interesting was that the rock and roll hand symbol is like the surfers "hang loose" symbol with just your thumb and pinky out as opposed to additionally having your index finger out. You can see this in the picture.
About every 5 minutes they would cheers. In Thai cheers is either "Yaawwk!" or "Chun Gayo" which means to clink glasses.
In the bathroom there are dudes that give you massages. Yes, you read that correctly. I was just standing there peeing with my weiner out and all, you know what you do in a bathroom, and some dude comes up behind me puts a rag on my neck and starts massaging my shoulders. I swatted him of, slightly frightened, and said no thank you. It confused the heck out of me but massages are a big part of Thai culture.
Thanks for reading! Enjoy!
